Here is the link to the latest version of GIMP: http://gimp.lisanet.de/Website/Download.html
That version should run on your laptop.
If you feel up to it, you can install Macports, which has 5,829 Open Source programs and libraries bundled in an easy to install and manage manner. The install process is only //slightly// difficult and is mapped out by following the following links:
A)http://guide.macports.org/#installing.x11
B)http://guide.macports.org/#installing.xcode
C)http://www.macports.org/install.php#pkg
After installing Macports you might want to install one last thing called Porticus. Porticus is a GUI to Macports (which is command line driven) which will help you manage your packages in a simple and intuitive interface. Porticus can be found here: http://porticus.alittledrop.com/index.html
